Toddlers (around 1.5–3 years)
When a child climbs out of the cot, it's time for a low toddler bed close to the floor, ideally with side rails to prevent rolling out. Keep it low, stable, and free of sharp edges as they learn to get in and out on their own.
Young children (around 3–6 years)
A standard single bed with a guard rail works well now. Many families choose a bed with storage drawers underneath — handy for toys and bedding in a room that's always short on space. Stability still matters most.
Older children (6–10 years)
This is a great age for bunk beds or loft beds, especially for siblings sharing a room or to free up floor space. Look for sturdy construction, secure guard rails on the top bunk, and a firmly fixed ladder. The top bunk is generally recommended for children over six.
Pre-teens
Older kids may want a more grown-up look and extra function — a study-bunk combo, or a single bed with a proper headboard and storage. Buying something they won't outgrow in style too quickly saves money down the line.
